He is a very nice professor, and you can tell he knows his lecture content! I'd take another course with him if I could. He's inspired me to look into different areas within cultural psychology.

very interesting topic, Heine obviously knows his stuff. lectures are 90% overlapping with the textbook which is what he really tests on. To do well you also need to know your stuff very well. ngl lectures are pretty bland, but I'm into this field regardless. He is kind and easy to talk to during OHs. all lectures are recorded. pretty good.

Steven is a great professor! I really enjoyed his course and found the course easy to do well in. To score well for the exams (MC), I studied the textbook instead of his slides. He also scales a ton which was a pro in my case as my mark significantly improved! My only advice is to start early for the assignment because it has multi-components.

I grew very fond of professor Heine at the end. He is a great teacher, caring for his students, never makes you feel stupid or incompetent. 2 exams, 1 easy assignment, top hat questions every class for participation and easy discussion posts. Like people mentioned previously, you have to read the entire textbook. Exams are fair. I recommend!

Basically reads off the lecture slides. However, lecture being based off the textbook helps with studying. If you read the textbook, you are good to go. Really enjoyed the content and this might be the most straightforward psyc class I have taken.

Steven Heine's lectures were quite boring to me. he doesnt do much to make them fun and he practically just reads off the slides. i found the exams to be pretty impractical, there was a lot of random information from the textbook that was asked about overall i didnt really like this course, although some of the info was interesting.

He's an okay professor, but he doesn't provide a study guide. The lectures are just reviews of the textbook.Cultural psyc should be renamed Japanese and American psychology. We rarely touch on other cultures which is disappointing considering how mainstream those two cultures already are. My anthropology courses were far richer.

Steven is a great prof that made content really easy to understand! As someone from an Asian culture, most of the content was very intuitive but also intriguing to see the research that went into things we see as 'natural'. He also wrote the textbook we use, so as long as you understand and remember the studies from the book you're good to go!

Dr. Heine taught existential psyc for the first time and it was incredible. Definitely take this class if you are interested in a deeper exploration into psychology and meaning in life. I learned so much and got to apply learning from many other courses. Dr. Heine was super helpful and cared about and respected our opinions and learning.

read textbook and you'll be fine. test were not that hard, just be good at memorizing. honestly, most straight forward class ive taken that is psych. I think those who found it hard did not do their readings .. but he wrote textbook so lecture and textbook line up a lot which i found easier to study

i thought he was leaning too much on stereotypes and the way the exam questions were phrased were not based on research found but based on stereotypical attributes of cultures, so basically a made-up question that you needed a concrete answer for, which makes the science behind his psychology feel very racist. Avoids being questioned when hes wrong

Steven wrote the textbook, but donates the funds to charity. Lectures are straight from text/slides, but tophat marks mean you have to attend. Exams very straightforward, almost reading comprehension. If you are ESL, tests may be difficult because lengthy questions to read. One "study" assign., easy A if you cite all relevant content from text.

Not sure if the other people who rated took this class online, but I found this class 1) incredibly dry, and 2) hard to follow. The textbook is like his lecture slides: bland and dense. No clear learning objectives. Midterm was hard, and our class was scaled up significantly (10+%) because of how poorly most of us did.

Watching Dr. Heine's lectures, you really get the sense that you're learning from a person who's constantly contributing to the field. With the final being 45% of my grade, I have to say it was definitely a scary thing to prep for. However, the final itself was straightforward enough

Dr. Heine obviously is extremely knowledgeable about cultural psychology so it's very interesting to hear him lecture. You can get a really good grade in this class IF YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK. I only read half of it (which is more than what I can say for most other classes), and was struggling on the final. Highly recommend but only if you read!

Dr. Heine is a good prof. I noticed a lot of bad reviews from international students, and I'm not international, so I can't vouch for that. However, his lectures are great and straightforward. For once it feels like you're being tested on what you have learned - not how great you can take a test.
