Paul is a great guy and he seems like he genuinely cares, however the structure of his classes are non existent, he will spend an 1 hour out of 3 on 1 slide talking about a personal story. Slides often have bare bone info with not much else and he has a heavy bias towards psychodynamic theories. Great guy, terrible terrible prof.

Dr. Hewitt is nice but the class itself is a 3 hour long lecture with only about 30 minutes worth of actual content and the rest just random conversation. The exams are pretty fair but they are pretty much only based off of the readings. The class just feels like it lacks structure and the same things are repeated over and over.

Extremely biased towards psychoanalysis and barely touches on other orientations. Uses outdated sources (often from the 70s-80s) and doesn't provide any learning objectives or guidance whatsoever. Also gets weirdly confrontational when students ask questions (especially about what to expect on exams). Really regret not withdrawing from this course.

Material is outdated. Exams & slides are riddled with simple spelling errors. Lectures are unpredictable & unstructured... so exam prep is a crapshoot. Would recommend avoiding his classes.

VERY biased towards psychoanalysis, constantly disses CBT. Assigns thought-pieces praising Freud with an avg citation from 1970. Slides are so outdated they describe the DSM IV which came out in 1994 and showed data from 2012 to prove psychoanalysis is relevant. You won't learn anything about the contemporary field. Still bad prof without all that

I would never take his course again. Good presenter and he made the class engaging, but having 33.333% exams * 3 to determine the entire grade is ridiculous:') Literally grind through all chapters he didn't cover in class before each exam. Still received bad grades. Avoid him at any cause.

I think the prof was funny and engaging. His over-explained examples were memorable for exams. If you attend his classes and are willing to learn the interesting material from the textbook you should be fine. exams are both lecture and textbook - the last two are more textbook information based. TA gives great study tips! do the group project ;)

Hewitt's a great speaker, but with caveats. His knowledge/experience he gives during lecture is real world & helps put the slides and course content in context. The downside (he is upfront about) is that lecture will not cover all material & textbook reading is necessary to succeed. Grade structure is as good as it gets, only top 3 scores get used.

Every rating equal to 2 or below is telling the truth, otherwise any above 2 is capping. My guy skips more lectures than the students. Luckily this years TA was splendid and was helpful, but like come on, my guy skips everyones group project and monitoring the final and leaves the TA alone to proctor the exam.

The class itself is a really interesting course, so if you're interested in the topic, you'll do fine. Grades were determined by 3 tests (test subject is 25% from lectures and 75% from textbook). He tends to ramble on during lectures but they are interesting tangents. Interesting but content heavy course.

Easy course but tests were on material not covered or covered after the exams. First lecture he sated "It's not my job to teach. It's my job to research and contribute to scientific knowledge". And he was true to that statement. Slides had dates on them from years ago. Readings are old and not good.

course is comprised of three exams. Every single one of them had content that we never covered or he said he wouldn't test on. Lectures were extremely hard to follow because he wouldn't stick to the set of slides posted on canvas. Not sure how they're allowed to operate this course but its almost like a scam to be honest.

This isn't a course that will boost most people's GPA (mine included), but in my opinion, it was worth it. I learned so much about what I do and don't want in a graduate program and my career will likely be quite different (and more fulfilling) because of this class. The exams are tough-- read everything provided on Canvas (it's a lot!).

Fun stories but disappointing. Highly disorganized class structure, scant class schedule, and poor slides. Exams were 60-75% outdated textbook material and 25-40% lecture material (with no citations or heavily outdated empirical evidence). Has tendency to interrupt or get defensive with students when they ask questions or express curiosity.

Do not take a course with this professor! He is a nice person, however, is extremely disorganized and unprofessional. The syllabus was given 2 - 3 weeks after the semester began. Exams were subjective. The lectures were inaccurate and he proposed claims without any empirical evidence. Lastly, he failed to discuss so many psychiatric disorders.

He was by far the worst prof I have ever had. Did not care about COVID, did not respond to emails, did not even give us a clear outline of what was expected on tests. The TAs were the same too. while it was a 3 hour long class every week, many lectures were not recorded which made it really difficult. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!!!!!

Three tests, worth 33% of our grade each. No indication about what we can expect from them. Literally tested us on content that was on lectures/readings that was scheduled for weeks AFTER the tests. Had the gall to keep the final exam in person despite the Omicron outbreaks and not show up himself. Thanks for endangering us at no cost to yourself.

His lectures are ok, shows a lot of videos in class though - however, you have to memorize the slides and do the readings in order to do well in his tests. Worst part was him and his TAs (SG & AK) did not respond to emails the entire semester and did not help at all. No info provided on any of the tests from the beginning, it's been so unclear.
