Is 50% a passing grade at UVic? ›

Consistent with the UVic academic calendar, for percentage grades, 50% or higher constitutes a passing grade for undergraduate courses, and 73% or higher constitutes a passing grade for graduate courses.

The University of Victoria (UVic), located in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is one of Canada's top research universities. It offers degree programmes to more than 20,000 students, 3,446 of them graduate students, with a current male to female ratio of 47:53.

In practice, most of the successful applicants offered admission have a higher GPA of at least a B+ average (a minimum 6.0/9.0 GPA), high Upper 2nd class standing, or equivalent. NOTE: Even if your work experience is in English, you may be required to provide proof of your English language proficiency.

Courses that are not formally dropped will be given a failing grade, you may be required to withdraw, and you will be required to pay the tuition fee for the course.

Duplicate courses

A duplicate course is one that you have received credit for before, but have to retake. For example, you might need to repeat a course to get a better grade. You won't get credit, but you can use the new grade to meet program requirements.

What happens if I get an N-UVic? ›

An N is a failing grade, and it factors into a student's GPA as 0. The maximum percentage that can accompany an N on a student's transcript is 49. 1.

Sessional GPA determines academic standing for all undergraduate students. A sessional GPA of at least 2.0 (or equivalent if a UVic student takes courses elsewhere for credit towards a UVic program) is required to remain in good academic standing.

Numerical and letter grades

However, there are some schools that consider a C the lowest passing grade, so the general standard is that anything below a 60% or 70% is failing, depending on the grading scale. In college and universities, a D is considered to be an unsatisfactory passing grade.

A pass is awarded to students who receive between 50% and 64%.

The passing grade is typically 50%, while certain institutions may need a higher grade. The percentage scale calculates a student's final grade, by converting it to a letter grade or GPA.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
