If you’ve followed me on Instagram for a while, you know that I’m obsessed with hotels. More specifically, I’m obsessed with fancy hotel lobbies. (So obsessed, in fact, that I even launched Hotel Lobby Candle, a luxury home fragrance line inspired by scents at the best five-star spots around the world.)
When Matt and I bought our Brooklyn apartment last year, there was one thing we knew with absolute certainty: we wanted our home to feel like the ultimate escape.
As I started to brainstorm design ideas, it suddenly dawned on me—what if each room was inspired by a different hotel? Like…how cool would that be?
So we decided to do it.
I knew immediately that our living room and kitchen would be inspired by one of my all-time favorite hotels, The Miami Beach Edition.
The lobby of the Edition, in my opinion, is one of the most aesthetically pleasing, breathtaking spaces I have ever stepped foot in.
It’s chic. It’s sexy. It feels like a vacation…but it’s also cozy and livable. I’ve always loved how it combines neutrals with metallics, light-washed wood and marble, and incorporates a ton of greenery for a pop of color.
And don’t even get me started on the sheer, billowy drapes. It was MY DREAM to one day have an apartment with floor to ceiling windows just so I could buy drapes like that (I still can’t believe I now do.)
Since this is the first apartment we’ve ever owned and we plan to be here a while, we really wanted to invest in making it our dream home.
We decided to hire an interior designer, the amazing Megan Hopp (who I found on Instagram!) to help us execute what we had in mind and elevate our ideas with her expertise.

The bar stools and globe pendant lights are by far my two favorite aspects of the kitchen. Initially I thought I wanted big tufted velvet stools, and Megan swiftly talked me out of that. Her argument (and rightfully so!) was that having a stool with a more open back would help make the smaller space feel more open.
Another thing we did that I loved was swap out our old backsplash, which was an ugly blue glass, in favor of these marble chevron tiles from Home Depot. They’re super affordable and look exactly like other tiles 10x the price.

I would have never thought to add marble shelving to this wall, but I’m so glad Megan suggested it.
I love being able to style the shelves with different glassware and greenery. They were also pretty inexpensive and give an otherwise boring wall a bit of personality.

Window Treatments & Chandelier
We had the sheer drapes custom-made from The Shade Store, and while they’re definitely an investment, I couldn’t be happier with how they came out. Highly, highly recommend.
The style we have is “tailored pleat drapes and basket sheer fabric” in the color winter.
We knew we wanted a gorgeous chandelier in the living room but hard-wiring it would have required an electrician and a costly installation. Instead, Megan suggested one of her genius hacks: a plug-in chandelier. If you look closely, you’ll see a thin wire on the ceiling concealed with a cord cover.
Our handyman attached our chandelier (which is from RHTeen, another great Megan Hopp money-saving hack) to the ceiling and then hid the cord in a corner, where it plugs into the wall. This is a great idea for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with hard-wiring a chandelier—and it’s especially good for renters.
A pro tip regarding the chandelier: I mentioned this in our bedroom tour, but I’ll say it again here too ICYMI! Check out Restoration Hardware TEEN for RH-quality pieces at a significantly lower price. (Everything I’ve seen at RHTeen is incredibly sophisticated and looks no different than standard RH furniture.)

The credenza was definitely an investment piece for us, and it was pricier than any piece of furniture we have ever purchased. Megan was a big supporter of us investing in the piece, and I’m SO glad that we listened to her.
She explained that investing a credenza like this one served so many purposes: not only was it functional, but it was also like a piece of art and the focal point of the room. Not to mention, it has an INSANE amount of storage.
We actually store all of my workout equipment in it (I’m talking two-full size yoga mats, weights, and towels), as well as our entire liquor collection, a huge box of misc cords, the cable box and power box, a massive drawers of files, and probably a lot of other things I’m not thinking of.
Long story short: it was worth every penny.
