Four Named To All-CAA Baseball Teams - Hofstra University Athletics (2024)

Hempstead, NY - Sophom*ore pitcher Carlos Martinez earned First Team All-Coastal Athletic Association accolades, while a trio of Hofstra players - senior first baseman Steve Harrington, graduate pitcher Mike McKenna, and sophom*ore second baseman Dylan Palmer - were named to the All-CAA Second Team as the conference unveiled its postseason awards this afternoon. The selections were made by a vote of the league's head coaches.

Martinez picked up his first postseason honor of the season after compiling a 6-4 record, a 4.21 ERA, and 90 strikeouts in 15 appearances (14 starts). The College Point, New York native was even more impressive in league play with a 5-1 record, a 1.24 ERA, and 61 strikeouts in nine appearances (8 starts). A two-time CAA Pitcher of the Week, Martinez ranks third in the CAA in strikeouts and third in strikeouts per nine innings (11.15). In league games only, he leads the way in ERA and strikeouts (61), and is second in strikeouts per nine innings (10.84).

Harrington returns to a spot on the All-CAA Second Team for the second consecutive season after earning the utility spot in 2023. This season, the Clark, New Jersey native was selected as an infielder after batting .316 with six doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 25 RBIs in 51 games. In 27 CAA games, Harrington batted .381 with five doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 17 RBIs. He ranked fourth in CAA-only games in batting and was tied for fifth with 40 hits.

McKenna grabs his first postseason honor after a stellar season as Hofstra's closer. The Farmingdale, New York native is 1-1 with a Hofstra single season record 10 saves in a team-best 23 appearances. He has 41 strikeouts in 35 ⅓ innings pitched and opponents are hitting .214 against him. McKenna notched seven of his saves in 13 CAA appearances.

Palmer also repeated as a Second Team All-CAA selection following an impressive regular season that saw him lead the Pride and rank third in the CAA in batting at .382. The West Windsor, New Jersey native ranked second in the league with 87 hits, a total that is second all-time at Hofstra. He had six doubles, two triples, one home run, 30 RBIs and 45 runs in 54 games at the leadoff spot. He also stole 23 bases, ranking second in the CAA. In league games only, Palmer batted .368 with four doubles, two triples, 11 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He was also 9-9 in stolen base attempts. His 43 hits in CAA games ranked third, while his batting average was seventh in league-only play.

Hofstra begins play at the 2024 CAA Championship in Wilmington, North Carolina Wednesday versus Northeastern. Game time is 4 p.m.
